Creating Rituals for Strong Marriages

Are you and your partner struggling to stay meaningfully connected to each other? The Good Men Project provides suggestions in a post about how couples can create rituals in their daily lives to promote meaningful connections with  each other.

One way that couples can do this is simply by eating meals with each other on a regular basis. Although this may not reasonably happen all the time, being able to sit down to five meals weekly can make a big difference. Be sure to keep it distraction-free by turning off your devices.

Another way to create ritual is setting aside time to talk. One idea is having thirty minutes daily to practice communication skills with each other. Use this as an opportunity to express your feelings as opposed to unloading with a bunch of complaints.

You can also have a weekly meeting to go over what vision each of you has for the relationship. For instance, is it time to make a major purchase such as a car or house? Or, are you both ready to begin a family? Write down your ideas to refer to later.

Couples can create more excitement in their relationships by exercising together daily.  The Good Men Project advises mixing it up by trying different sports or outdoor activities together, depending on the season. This helps keeps things fresh and interesting. The site notes that couples who share in these kinds of experiences are more likely to be closer in their relationships.

Finally, couples can use physical contact to strengthen their relationships. For instance, hugging for thirty seconds daily has been shown to boost intimacy for couples. Physical touch releases hormones that make you feel good.
